In this edition of 30 on 3D, Senior R&D Engineer, Peter Montgomery, explains how to use advanced sectioning features in Materialise Magics. If you missed the previous episode, where we explain how to use the basic sectioning tool in Magics, be sure to check it out prior to watching this video.
In this tutorial, Peter is going to create a section using some mating features.
Using the slider tools, make a cut along the axis, adding some registration features. To do this, use the “Cut or Punch” button. In the section tab, select “Cut Selected Contours” or select “Cut Visible Sections” and in the drop down select “Lap Joint” instead of “Basic.”
In our example, Peter selected “Cut Visible Sections” and “Lap Joint.” This allow created a lap joint with some mating registration features and clearance in the part. Once you select “Contour” and “Apply” you will see your part with corresponding sections.
Variations in mating registration features and clearance can be specified by the user prior to performing the cutting operation.
This example is one of the ways you can use the sectioning parts feature in Magics. If you’d like to know more about your software options, contact our team by phone at 949.474.9222 or by email at [email protected].
