We knew the new Objet500 Connex3 Color Multi-material 3D Printer would create waves in the fashion world but we didn’t how quickly they would reach our shore. Dr. Michaella Janse van Vuuren is a creative thinker who found paradise in the system’s colorful, multi-material properties.
Michaella has been working with 3D printing technology as a way to fuse her passion for art and design with her technical background in engineering. This is reflected in her design firm, NOMILI, and as a driving force behind Agents of the 3D Revolution, which supports artists who use 3D printing in their work.
Michaella has re-envisioned the Garden of Eden story and this time, it’s Eve who subjugates the serpent. Working from this central theme, she has created a unique fashion collection featuring bright, colorful pieces that use composite PolyJet digital materials and multi-material properties including rigid, flexible, and transparent to redefine 3D printed fashion technology.

Fantastically, almost all the pieces are 3D printed in one print run – no assembly required. “This is the first time that I’m using a 3D printing technology that truly allows me to make something so close to an end product,” says van Vuuren. “The ability to combine rigid and flexible materials in one piece is something that is so rare, and introducing color into the process inspires us creatives to think in a whole new way.”
