1. What does Purple Platypus do?

Purple Platypus, headquartered in Orange County, is a Diamond-level Stratasys reseller covering CA, AZ, and NV. Founded in 2007, Purple Platypus was focused on a singular goal: to help customers optimize their prototyping and manufacturing processes. Over the past 15 years, our team has expanded and grown, collaborating with a range of organizations from small startups to Fortune 100 companies.

With the largest Stratasys showroom on the West Coast and a committed knowledgeable team of industry experts that strive for impeccable customer service and support, Purple Platypus helps customers identify the right tool for their application while maximizing ROI.

2. What type of printers do you offer?

Purple Platypus is a Stratasys reseller offering a full range of 3D printing technologies for diverse applications, including:

Functional Prototypes, Jigs & Fixtures (FDM)
Durable parts for prototypes, tooling, and production in standard or high-performance plastics — from high-strength to temperature-resistant materials.

Realistic Prototypes (PolyJet)
Ultra-realistic prototypes and medical models feature exceptional detail and over 650,000 colors. Multi-material printing enables precise visual and functional validation.

Functional Parts at Production Quantities (SAF)
Affordable, production-ready parts with smooth surface finishes using High Yield PA11, PolyPropylene, and PA12. Ideal for scalable, high-volume manufacturing.

End-Use Parts (DLP)
End-use applications requiring strength and precision benefit from the scalable production of tough, elastomeric, and medical-grade components.

Prototypes, Investment Casting & Composite Tooling (SLA)
High-quality parts featuring superior surface detail and accuracy, with open-source materials for prototypes, master patterns, and tooling.

3. Where is Purple Platypus located?

Purple Platypus is headquartered in Irvine, CA. At our Tech Center, we have 35+ Stratasys printers, showcasing every technology and the full product lifecycle – from prototyping into production. Additionally, we have offices in Phoenix, AZ and Fremont, CA, available by appointment.

4. Do you offer maintenance or repair services?

Yes, Purple Platypus offers comprehensive maintenance and repair services for the 3D printers we sell and support. With over 45 years of combined experience, our service technicians are truly Stratasys experts. Even if you don’t have an active service contract, our team can still assist with troubleshooting and repairs to get your system back up and running quickly. 5. What type of training is available?

Through Purple Platypus University (PPU), we provide hands-on training for every Stratasys system. PPU is the only Stratasys-Authorized Training Center on the West Coast.

We offer four types of classes:

Open – Join a scheduled class with participants from multiple companies. These sessions cover foundational and advanced topics, allowing attendees to learn from both the instructor and peer experiences.

Exclusive – Designed specifically for your company, these private sessions focus on your team’s applications, materials, and files, providing a customized learning experience at our training facility.

Exclusive Plus – Includes all the benefits of the Exclusive class, along with an on-site technical visit and one year of Application Engineering support for continued guidance and implementation assistance.

Stratasys Certified – Official certification courses for operators or instructors, providing in-depth instruction, advanced software training. These courses are prerequisites for the highest level of training Stratasys offers.

6. How do I order material?

Materials and consumables can be ordered through the Stratasys Customer Hub eStore.

If you’re new to the Hub, visit the site using Google Chrome and click “Request Account” to get started. You can pay by credit card or purchase order (invoiced per your account terms). The Quick Order feature lets you enter part numbers directly, and if an item is out of stock, you’ll see a notice during checkout. You can also contact Purple Platypus as an alternate ordering source.
