September’s Part of the Month was chosen by Sales Engineer, Zach Peterson. Zach chose a scaled-down Origin One model of an airplane turbine engine because of its quality and function. The airplane engine “has a cool moving component that you can twist or even hold it up to a fan and watch it move on its own,” says Zach.
The turbine engine model is a newer addition to our showroom and Zach was immediately drawn to it. “When I was a kid, I was really into flying and wanted to be a pilot, so seeing this part brought me some nostalgic happiness.”
This part, designed by Stratasys’ Chris Wentworth, is made up of 5 different parts and took 2.2 hours to print on the Origin One. The Origin One is known for quickly printing detailed and smooth parts in production quantities. The airplane engine model is made of Dura56 and has a smooth surface finish comparable to that of injection molding. In an era of global supply chain issues, the Origin One allows for production of 3D printed end use parts. These parts don’t require secondary finishing and can be printed with a fine detail of less than 50 microns.
Dura56 is a durable, impact-resistant photopolymer made best for functional applications where aesthetics and robustness are critical. The airplane engine was made with Dura56 to create a smooth surface finish and a strong mating feature (the twisting function). You can print more for less without sacrificing detail or quality.
The Origin One is making waves in the 3D printing industry with its Digital Light Processing technology and we’re excited to continue using our printer! To learn more about your printer options, or DLP applications, stop by our office or give us a call at 949.474.9222.
