February’s Part of the Month, selected by Product Support Manager Max Semko, focuses on a simple, real-world problem and how industrial 3D printing can solve it. Inspired by a broken backpack buckle, this feature highlights how SAF technology is well suited for producing durable, functional parts designed for everyday use. It’s a practical example of how SAF goes beyond prototyping to deliver strong, reliable components that last.
February’s Part of the Month is brought to us by Product Support Manager Max Semko, inspired by a problem so relatable it could happen to anyone with a backpack and bad luck.
After a buckle on his backpack broke, Max selected this part to highlight SAF’s ability to produce durable, functional components, and he’s planning to design and print the replacement.
Material: PA11
The buckle example was printed using SAF technology, which is known for producing strong, consistent parts with reliable mechanical performance. After printing, the part was dyed to give it a clean, finished look. PA11 is a bio-based nylon with great impact resistance and fatigue strength. These properties make it a great choice for functional parts like buckles and clips that go through repeated movement over time.
“I like the part because it’s functional and made from a tough material that’s actually useful in everyday life.”
– Max
Printer: Stratasys H350
The Stratasys H350 is a production grade SAF system designed for repeatability and consistency. It produces functional parts that need to perform the same way every time, whether they are prototypes, one off replacements, or scaled into production.
Max’s dilemma was a broken backpack buckle that made the bag frustrating to use. His plan is to design, and 3D print a custom replacement that will solve this issue. This works because SAF delivers the strength, durability, and real-world performance needed for everyday parts.
This Part of the Month is a great example of how SAF goes beyond prototyping and into real life, solving small problems in a way that lasts.
