Jason Brown, our Systems Supervisor, has selected November’s part of the month: Alexander McQueen sneakers. After ten years with Purple, he’s still amazed by how Stratasys technology has evolved.Â
He’s witnessed the growth of PolyJet technology to the point where we can now customize sneakers using a 3D printer.
So, how were they made?
The J850 TechStyle printer has truly expanded the creative possibilities in 3D printing. JB loves that it can print directly onto fabrics, enabling us to create “absolutely stunning parts.” These sneakers feature a one-of-a-kind design, thanks to the full-color and detailed texture capabilities of the J850 TechStyle. The colorful bubble design surrounds the raised branding logo, and the 3D-printed detailing gives the sneakers a fresh, unique look that only someone with a J850 TechStyle printer could achieve.
3D printing is making waves in the fashion industry, offering up to seven TechStyle materials and over 600,000 colors in both matte and glossy finishes. The resin absorbs into various porous fabrics, such as carbon fiber sheets, flexible polymers, Mylar, nets, canvas, and other materials. The resin is then cured to create designs like the one on the sneakers. After spending time crafting your ideal design, you don’t have to worry about its longevity on your chosen material because VeroEco™ Flex materials pass ISO 105-C06 washability testing.
This technology not only enhances creativity but also boosts productivity. Once you finish customizing your Alexander McQueen sneakers, you can easily swap out the tray and start personalizing your denim jacket right afterward. The J850 TechStyle features an interchangeable tray, allowing for quick changes and minimizing downtime during production.
When I asked JB if he’d wear the sneakers, he replied, “If they were in my size.”Â
I also asked what his dream sneakers would look like, and without hesitation, he mentioned they’d definitely be Dodgers-themed. Luckily, JB’s sneaker dreams are within reach, thanks to the J850 TechStyle and its endless design possibilities!
