December’s Part of the Month was selected by Natalia Renteria, our Sales Operations Manager. When she picked the part, she began talking about how it felt nostalgic and reminded her of her favorite childhood memories.
I was confused. And then it clicked. The part does kind of look like the eye from Hocus Pocus.
This month’s part wasn’t a prop for the famous Spell Book eye, but it is just as interesting. It is a hyperrealistic, textured eye created using the J5 Digital Anatomy Printer. This level of anatomical realism is revolutionizing medical training.
The eye model features two different iris colors, showcasing the J5 DAP’s color capabilities. Natalia finds it exciting that “the capabilities of the J5 DAP are constantly improving and delivering better quality.” You can print one of these in just over 10 hours, or print 10 of them in 17 hours, fitting a dozen on the print tray.
Initially, the model might seem a bit creepy, but as Natalia points out, “The creepiness actually shows how realistic it looks,” offering a fresh perspective on the importance of these models in the medical field, where such realism is essential for continuous improvement.
The Digital Anatomy Printer can create over 300 unique digital materials to build complex, multi-textured structures. It has dual functionality:
- Incredibly realistic, fully color models, like the one highlighted in this blog post.
- Clinically validated biomechanically realistic anatomical models using 3D printing materials that mimic human tissue and bone.
Pretty cool, right? With this level of technology, you can print models like tracheas or vertebrae. Or, if you’re like Natalia, you might want to print a model of your very own eye.
