We’re kicking off June with some exciting news — the launch of Stratasys’ newest PolyJet material: ToughONE. Known for its impressive strength and durability, ToughONE is already making waves.
To highlight this, our Senior Sales Engineer, Mark Dewey, chose to feature a ToughONE part for Part of The Month, a bouncing ball that can withstand impact without breaking.
And yes, it actually bounces. Let’s explore why this material is getting so much attention.
What Is ToughONE?
ToughONE is a high-performance PolyJet resin that adds aesthetics to functionality. “PolyJet has always been king of prototyping,” says Mark. “But ToughONE is what an engineer wants — for their parts to survive.”
ToughONE rivals traditional engineering plastics, with impact strength ranging from 170–250 J/m and elongation at break between 47–58%. This places it ahead of previous PolyJet materials like Digital ABS+, which, as Mark points out, “can’t bounce or bend like ToughONE can.”
How It Performs
ToughONE isn’t just strong, it’s versatile and tactile. “It has a more nylon-like feel to it,” Mark explains. “And [it is] nylon-like in how it reacts to pressure.”
We decided to test a couple of other ToughONE parts to see how they would hold up to being dropped. The parts stayed intact, but what was unique about this one was that it actually bounced. It’s currently available in white, but it can be combined with Vero materials for multi-color printing. That means you’re not sacrificing creativity for strength.
Cost Advantage
One of the most compelling aspects of ToughONE? The price.
“It’s coming in at 30% less than other Vero materials,” Mark notes. “Frankly, I’d use it as a primary material in my mix — ToughONE would be the center for most of my builds.”
Printer Compatability
ToughONE is supported on Stratasys J8 Series 3D printers:
If you’re running one of these systems, you’re ready to bring ToughONE into your workflow. If you want to purchase the material, you’ll be able to after its release date – June 10, 2025.
ToughONE vs ToughONE Reinforced
Want to take ToughONE to the next level? There’s a tougher version called ToughONE Reinforced, enhanced with RGD531S, a PolyJet reinforcer that adds an extra layer of strength and durability. While ToughONE on its own is similar to High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) in terms of toughness and impact resistance, ToughONE Reinforced steps it up — offering performance closer to PC-ABS, which combines strength and flexibility.
Not sure which one fits your project? ToughONE is a solid choice for things like pipes, fittings, and packaging containers — anywhere you need toughness without too much flex. ToughONE Reinforced, on the other hand, is built for more demanding applications, like automotive parts or power tool housings, where you need a material that can handle stress while maintaining structural integrity.
