For October’s Part of the Month, Purple spotlighted Spellbound’s Enemy Elixir prototype, designed by Head of Product Design, Wilma Matilda. Starting from just a sketch, Purple’s team transformed the concept into a polished, retro-inspired prototype that was printed to scale, fully transparent, and safely sealed. Using the Stratasys J850 PolyJet printer with GrabCAD Print Pro, the project went from idea to finished part in about one week.
To kick off October, Purple welcomed a special guest, Spellbound’s one and only, Head of Product Design, Wilma Matilda. You may recognize Wilma from last year’s case study, where Spellbound partnered with Purple to prototype packaging for a new product release. I’m happy to report back that project went on to launch successfully, in part thanks to the high-quality prototypes Purple produced.
Let’s look back at how we made it happen….
For October’s Part of the Month, we’re spotlighting Spellbound’s iconic Enemy Elixir. Wilma came to Purple with just a sketch and a vision of a “retro-inspired” design that aligned perfectly with Spellbound’s branding.
Working side by side with our engineers, we transformed her concept into a polished prototype that was:
- Printed to scale
- Fully transparent
- Safely sealed for protection
The Process
To ensure the Enemy Elixir prototype was both safe and true to the vision, Purple Application Engineer, Eric Alexander, relied on the Stratasys J850 PolyJet printer paired with GrabCAD Print Pro software.
Using GrabCAD Print Pro’s Smart Insert feature, Eric was able to seal the elixir in by:
- Pausing the print after the base was completed
- Adding the liquid “elixir”
- Placing the cork top
- Resuming the print seamlessly
From concept to completion, the project took about a week, bringing Wilma’s retro-classic design to life in record time.
